The log cabin was constructed before 1926; it is a beautiful, rustic, and warm space to relax and enjoy the Yellowstone experience. As they say, “If the walls could talk” (which they don’t), who knows what tales would be shared over its 100 or so years of existence. That being said, The Moose Bunkhouse has undergone a great deal of personal restoration by Mike and Sherry; it offers a rustic ambiance, comfortable settings, and modern amenities.
As you enter The Moose Bunkhouse across the grand front porch and through the backwoods front door, you will feel like you have been taken back in history to an era of true firsts. The living room provides a warm and comfortable space with a vaulted ceiling and ornate wrap around banister giving character and openness. An antique wood stove provides a decorative and historic focal point of the room, while the more modern pellet stove provides the warmth, as desired. Decorations, lighting, and furnishings provide area ambiance and functionality. For those needing a dose of “real world happenings” nestled in the corner is a 65” flat screen TV ready to entertain.
The kitchen and dining areas are open and ready to serve with an eight seat country dining table overlooking the tranquil meadow adjacent to the south fork of the Madison River. A fully equipped kitchen allows for culinary creativity and a great place to gather. Amenities, among other things, include modern oven, cooktop, microwave, refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, and wine cooler.
There are four themed bedrooms with two full baths and one three quarter bathroom (shower only).
Downstairs, for the open minded, is the Ooh La La on-suite inspired by The Moose’ “wild west bunk house” days; its sporting a king size bed, red velvet head board / wall, appropriate era decoration, and a private decadent bathroom with heated floor.
Also downstairs is the Grizzly Bear Cub den on-suite. It’s perfect for the kids with a bunk bed, Captains double bed, and folding futon for the one in the sleeping bag (bag not included). The Grizzly bear cub den also has a full bath including a real rock sink, heated floor, and bathtub. The Grizzly bear on-suite decor and bedding make the space fun and exciting for the new adventurers.
Upstairs you will find the Bison and Moose bedrooms, separated by a full bath including dual rock vanities, heated floor, and plenty of space for the ladies to spread out. The Bison bedroom sports real log beds (appropriately padded), a folding futon for sleeping bag use, accommodations up to four, and appropriate Bison décor. The Moose bedroom, while labeled after the cabin itself, is the most modest bedroom, however, it comfortably supports rustic furniture and a queen bed. Both the Bison and Moose bedrooms share the upstairs bathroom via a single common access door from the upstairs lounge.
Also upstairs, at the top of the landing, there is a somewhat spacious gathering area for either the kids or the adults, maybe both, to relax on the couch and love seat or have a glass of wine at the high top table. Board games, a small gaming TV, and a montage of books / novels are available as well.
The back of the house provides a large deck looking out into the same meadow as from the dining room, plenty of seats for all the guests, and maybe, if you’re lucky a moose sighting.
As with many restorations, some things just won’t be fixed, so if you have the sensation that you are walking slightly up or down, you are; the land in the Yellowstone area is constantly shifting giving The Moose Bunkhouse even more character (you should expect to hear some creeks and groans as well). The restoration process is on-going and during the off season we continue to make various modifications and improvements, however, if you notice something needing immediate attention, please let us know.
