Without a doubt there are more things to do in the area than you could do on a typical family vacation, and of course Yellowstone National Park gets top billing for most. Keep in mind that park roads can become “Bison Jammed”, and your travel in and out of the park can be delayed, sometimes for hours. It’s always a good idea to take extra snacks and water to be on the safe side. In addition to Yellowstone, we recommend spending some time hiking or fishing in the local mountains and rivers. Most of these places are not crowded (in fact, most are quite secluded), full of wildlife and breath taking views. Many of the pictures on our website were taken from surrounding areas, most within 5 – 10 miles.

Local dining also has some nuances that should be considered, especially during peak times throughout the year. We’ve enjoyed many dining experiences in West Yellowstone, and for the most part, the service is thumbs up all around. Here comes the “however” part. West Yellowstone is a small town with limited resources supporting the service infrastructure; therefore, be patient, build extra time into your plans, and your trip will be much more enjoyable (don’t forget about The Moose’ fully equipped kitchen).

When’s the best time to go into the park? Easy, when you’re ready. However, it has been our experience that early morning is best if you want to avoid the crowds and traffic. Seriously, the Bison jams are real!
